Dear Members,
This year marks another significant chapter in our Association’s journey. We have embarked on an ESG SCM “rating agent” role as well as professional certification. The existing programs are still carried on with the full support of the Government and industry partners. The ‘Business Mission to Seoul’ in July, together with our annual international logistics case competition, was another successful event. We had students competing from Rotterdam, Taiwan, Korea, and Singapore against students from our own universities. We promote logistics not only to post-secondary students but also to secondary school children via the “Logistics In Your Eyes” short video competition. The completion of the “Cold Chain 2.0” project is also a remarkable masterpiece.
The following are highlights of the key programs:
Heavy Support from ESG Patrons
Our Association is definitely one of the pioneers of logistics rating agents for ‘Environment, Social, and Governance in Supply Chain Management, ESG SCM’. Heavy support, as patrons, comes from key players in ESG, namely AAHK, Hactl, and the PolyU ISE Department. Their commitment to our ESG missions enhances our credibility and empowers us to develop ESG supply chain management.
Government Funding
Additionally, we have successfully secured government funding to support key programs, including the ESG SCM launch ceremony, the “Logistics in Your Eyes” secondary school video competition, and the Hong Kong NextGen Logistician Awards. The funding is critical as it enables us to execute these initiatives effectively and reach a wider audience.
Seoul Business Mission and Logistics Case Competition
HKLA organized a delegation to Seoul, in conjunction with the annual international logistics case competition, from June 24 to July 1, 2024. University students from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Rotterdam, and Hong Kong, shared an enjoyable time at the logistics case competition. This was the second year we ran a business mission to explore business opportunities outside of Hong Kong. We visited LX Pantos, Hanjin Co. LTD, the Hanjin Logistics Institute, and LogisAll Consulting in Korea. In addition, we met with Korea Trade and Development Council officers, KLIP, chambers, and enterprises, which brought in more business opportunities and collaboration.
“Logistics In Your Eyes” Secondary School Short Video Competition
This is the third year we have run a short video competition for secondary school students. The program is funded by the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) of the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council and is supported by the Education Bureau in promotion and venue support. The Association accepted entries from 36 secondary schools and 38 teams, reaching over 170 secondary school students. Students produced short videos of no more than 3 minutes that represent their view of “smart” and “innovative” logistics. We organized four study visits for students – to Hactl, Cathay Cargo Terminal, and Cainiao Smart Gateway – and a briefing session to allow better understanding and appreciation of modern and smart logistics. It is hoped that the more the younger generation understands, the more talent can be recruited for the industry. A panel of judges from the public and private sectors has been formed, and the results are announced on December 4, 2024.
Conclusion
In closing, I would like to extend my gratitude to our Council Members, Associates, Corporate Members, and members at all levels for your dedication and involvement. Together, building on our solid foundation, we are making strides in various important aspects of the logistics industry, and I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead as we continue to advance our missions.
Yours faithfully,
Elsa Yuen
